HUNDREDS OF GHANAIANS IGNORE CHURCH TO WATCH CRASHED PLANE

Hundreds of curious Ghanaians including Christians on Sunday ignored all other activities and flocked the Hajj Village near the El Wak Sports Stadium in Accra to catch a glimpse of Allied Air cargo plane that had overshot its runway and crashed into a commercial bus the previous night.

As early as 6:30 a.m., dozens of people from all walks of life had congregated at the accident site to have a look at the gigantic airline which had claimed 10 lives.
The numbers kept on doubling as the minutes went by prompting the Ghana Police Service to allocate some personnel manning the accident scene to regulate the movement and trooping in of these curios people to avoid any stampede or unfortunate incident.

The Police made sure that long queues were formed as the people moved in to watch the debris of the plane in batches of hundred at a time.
The scene was like those ones experienced during election days though the difference was that there were no ballot boxes around this time and this time around, almost everyone in the crowd either had a mobile phone or a digital camera to take a snapshot of this rare occurrence.

Commercial photographers also took advantage of the gathered crowd especially those without any image capturing device as they instantly took and printed photographs of the stabled plane and sold to the inquisitive people around.
Each printed photograph was sold at Gh₵ 2.00 but this did not deter the assembled crowd including children from patronizing.

One of the photographers told me that as at noon, he had sold as much as two hundred copies of the photos and was hoping to sell more.
Ghana has an enviable good record regarding plane accidents.

The last time the country witnessed an air craft mishap was in June 2006, when a TAAG Linhas Aereas De Angola flight scheduled for Sao Tome hit birds during take-off. Everybody onboard survived unscathed as the plane landed safely. This comes as no surprise that everyone wanted to have h feel of how the unfortunate incident looked like.
